MAMFT Fall Conference: What We Learned from Therapists About EHR Systems
Last week, we joined hundreds of therapists the Minnesota Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (MAMFT) Fall Conference.
Armed with candy and our Life is a Breeze sweepstakes, we spent the day chatting with therapists about EHRs and practice management. We covered the gamut with conference attendees: established solo practitioners, group practice contractors, and therapists getting ready to strike out on their own for the first time.
Here’s what we heard from the therapists at the conference:
Therapists need EHRs that are easy to use.
Many of the therapists we spoke with were struggling with their current EHR systems. One was even on her fifth system in four years. Many had even avoided EHRs altogether because there were no simple systems that worked for them.
Therapists need EHRs that are secure.
Therapists, rightly so, are extremely concerned about the security of their client records. One of the most common questions was, “Will my patients’ records be safe?” (Answer: Yes, they will be!). Other security issues included who would have access to patient records and what safeguards were in place to restrict that access unless it’s only necessary. With BreezyNotes, access to client records is granted to the fewest people possible and our policies strictly follow HIPAA guidelines to further increase accountability.
Customer support is quintessential.
All customers acknowledged it was difficult getting used to an Electronic Health Records system. The difference between therapists who liked their system and didn’t like their system was often customer support. Did they get the training they needed when they started out? Could they get their questions answered further down the line? Did they respond quick enough? We believe it is very reasonable to expect the people behind the software to be helpful, friendly and responsive whether you are just looking into BreezyNotes or a veteran customer.
The MAMFT Membership Committee members are great!
We have to praise the great work by the MAMFT Staff and Fall Conference Committee members. From an exhibitor’s perspective, they were very friendly, flexible and helpful. Thanks for the opportunity to attend the Conference!
Another thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth to talk EHRs with us. We’re looking forward to attending more conferences, talking to more people, and learning more about how we can help make EHR simple for therapists.
